An Ijaw group has said that former president Goodluck Jonathan cannot be faulted in leadership skills – The group said Jonathan provided the basic platform for Nigeria’s democracy and economy to thrive.
They also cautioned the former governor of Edo state Adams Oshiomhole and the minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi over negative comments against Jonathan An Ijaw group has said that former president Goodluck Jonathan cannot be faulted after demonstrated a sound example of a democratic leader in Nigeria.
The group, Save Ijaw Nation Group (SING) said Jonathan provided the basic platform for Nigeria’s democracy and economy to thrive. The group however, said, it was not surprised at the utternace of the former governor of Edo state Adams Oshiomhole and the minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi against the former president.
In its statement, the group’s coordinator Otobo Orsborne said Oshiomhole and Amaechi have proven to be double faced liars and serial betrayers to Jonathan.
Osborne said: “In a democratic setting, the most basic requirement of any leader is that he provides the platform for democracy and the economy to thrive.”
“On both scores, no one can fault Jonathan. We are however, not surprised at the utterances of these two characters because they have proven to be double-faced liars and serial betrayers,” Osborne said.
The group also said the gang up against Jonathan by the two politicians can be attributed to threats made during the last general election. Osborne noted that the former governor could only engage in such comments against Jonathan because he is currently out of job.
“Never since the civil war has Nigeria been as divided as it is today with different regions of the nation giving quit notices to each other. A prudent person would in such circumstances tailor his speech to build unity, but not Amaechi.
“Of course, it is not surprising that Oshiomhole would change his tone today especially when he is out of a job and is desperate to curry favour with the hope of getting a new job but we wish to remind him that under Jonathan, elections were free and fair as he said and there was no ‘inconclusive elections. “President Jonathan has demonstrated statesmanship.
I think there is hope for Nigeria. What the Edo election has confirmed is that when the President and Commander-in-Chief puts the country first and conducts himself as a statesman, not just as a party leader, credible elections are possible,” he said.
We can recall that Amaechi and Oshiomhole had earlier made statements against the former president at different events. The minister of transpiration had said that Nigeria was on the verge of a civil war during the Jonathan’s administration.
